Subject: New Biologic Meds
For me to qualify for the get the new biologic med enbrel I had to come off all my meds for two months so that I would become so ill that I would qualify under the strict criteria at the time. Nurse explained that they were so expensive, the NHS in my area was making it difficult for the doctors to prescribe them even though it was the best treatment. My god was I in agony could not walk two feet without pain.. extreme agony.. Anyone else had to jump through hoops like that... Got mine in the end.. I've been fantastic on them.

Awwww Lynnne blimey that is disgusting...how terrrible for u that u had to do that...Im very lucky, took ages tho to eventually get them..so much paper work, and as u day, strict criteria...even tho I was allowed them after the tests(very long winded proces) Once she said I qualifyed, took a further three months to begin them....im better on them too Lynne, imagine Not being on them... would be terrrible

With you on that one Jill.. it is very scary though when you read all the bumph on the drugs.. still I couldn't manage without them.. how long you been diagnosed.. Got mine in 1989 when I was 30yrs old.. darn it give me age away now lol lol Found out recently that enbrel is a chimeric drug made from DNA of a human and a Chinese mouse!!! just waiting for my nose to twitch and my tail to grow... wondered why I keep fancying cheese... lol.. rolf

ROFLAMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... BLIMEY mices pee when they walk too Lynne lol..u doing that yet ?? ooh another idea for a new topic!!... I was officially diagnosed in 2002, but had probs since age 15 with my back... then pain after first baby born in 86, they then told me(difff area and hosp) that I had what they callled NON PROGRESSIVE ARTHRITIS...LOl they got that wrong... was ok off and on during pregnancies(had 6 births altogether) Anyway, as u can see that took a lot of years, but inbetween i was in pain... accepted that for years, until 2002, collapsed, in hosp for 6 weeks, they diagnosed me with Reiters Syndrome( very rare) I also have a defective gene..HLA b27, predisposed to getting Reiters, triggered offf by food posioning...have to be careful where I eat and waht I eat, Hygeien is soooooooooooo important! Howeever, Reiters when Chronic(mine is sadly) has left me with Inflam Artha... but the reiters is still active also... plus got DDD(degen disc Disease, from reiters)...so lots stufff going on...LOL u same age as me then..im now a YOUNG 49... DIDNT KNOW THAT ABOUT eNBREL EEEEK!!

I know what you mean about hygiene .. I'm careful about that.. especially around food.. also tell my friends not to visit if they've got a cold (I explain why) and they are pretty cool about it.
Went to visit family at xmas and the little un's had a bad cold (didn't know before I went) I ended up catching it and was ill for a month

I'm very careful too having had phnemonia in jan was in hospital for two weeks with it. I don't take any chances now. Didn't know that enbrel was chimeric either, I'm on that too. Think i'll have a solasf too
