Subject: Pain Meds

Hi all, I have been diagnosed with arthritis and osteoarthritis and tendonitis, I have been self medicating with paracetamol or co-codomol but feel I needed more support so went to my GP. She has prescribed Amitriptyline which I just assumed was a pain med. I came home and looked it up because she said take it in the evenings. Well it turns out it is a Tricyclic Antidepressant which could have horrible side affects but is used for Arthritis pain. I am a bit worried about it and was wondering if anyone else is on this drug for their Arthritis and could give me some pointers.
Thank you for your time fellow sufferers.
Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,
I personally have not taken that drug but my husband did for back pain (sciatica)
It didn't work for him.
They give this drug to make you relax. Our problem is trying to find what is right for us.
Give it a go and see.... if it doesn't work for you go back to your GP.
There is plenty out there to help.
I take Gabapentin which helps me better than anything else.

Have you been checked for Rheumatoid Arthritis as this type of arthritis is a different thing altogether.

Jaqui it does sometimes take a while to find what suits you best.
I hope you get sorted soon. Take care x
