Subject: Strange diagnosis?

Hi all.

I saw an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday about an ongoing problem with my right knee - it's been swollen and sore along the joint-line and occasionally "locking" for several months now. My physio thinks the most likely culprit is a tear in the miniscus or a loose body in the joint, but the surgeon wants to test me for rheumatoid arthritis because I do have a lesser inflammatory problem with the other knee, as well as a slightly swollen right ankle - both of which we'd been putting down to strain caused by my not weight-bearing properly on the right knee. I also have a very crunchy (although not painful) right shoulder and a tendency to sciatica caused by inflammation in my sacroiliac joint on the right sidem- I'm only 25, but I'm falling apart a bit!

Can anyone tell me if this sounds like the start of rheumatoid arthritis? From what I've read it typically starts in the fingers or toes, but I assume the surgeoon knows that. To be honest I'm bricking it a bit because I know RA is not a nice diagnosis - does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Lucy.

Hi Lucy

I dont think I can be of any help, can u ask for a referal to a Rhumatologist, better than a surgeons or GP opinion, they specialise in Joints etc... u need to ask the Gp tho for a referal, as u cant self referal, unless ur private of course

take care

My R.A started in my right knee after I went on a trampoline a few weeks after my fourth child was born. It never got better but because I thought it was a sports injury I didnt get it checked out at first. It then spread to my ribs, left shoulder, right foot, left knee and hips within a few months.

Hi Sam,

I work for a market research company that specialises in the medical device field. We are looking for RA sufferers that inject Humira and either live in the London area or are willing and able to travel to London to take part in an interview. The interview will relate to a new device to help RA sufferers administer their drugs. We will pay £200 to cover expenses and the interview would last approx 90 minutes.
