Subject: Hi, I'm new here. Your experiences on Thumb surgery

I'm 56 and have had arthritis for 15 years, It seems to have been triggered by a streptococus infection which didn't react to antibiotics. 18 months ago I had a cortisone infiltration to reduce the severe pain in my thumb, it left me pain free for 9 months, a second infiltration left me painfree for 2 months, however, this treatment has completely destroyed the cartilage so i'm left with bone rubbing against bone. Next week I am having an operation to insert a metal plate which will immobilise the thumb joint, hopefully stopping the pain. Has anyone had this operation done and if so what was the outcome‽
