Subject: Sudden onset of arthritis

Having had pain in both legs/knees for years and assumed it was caused by previous ligament damage, i have now been diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee. The pain and stiffness came on almost overnight due to a virus and i am struggling to do normal everyday things. I cannot walk without a stick when i go out and need some moral support!! I am 60 next year and till now thought i was doing quite well!!

hi Suzanne , I am sorry you are having problems , did the say osteoarthritis , but there are other arthtitis that can cause it ,

there are things you can do , try some gel's like votarol from the chemist , physio would help as would trying cycling to build up the muscles around the joint , I need a total right Knee replacement & told to do cycling but have to wait until other health problems clear up before they will do the replacement

I've had many steroids injections into my knees Gerry, they do help but are not a cure. Is it steroid injections that they have recommended? Have you tried knee supports, they can help a bit. You could ask for an appointment with a physio. Swimming is also easy on the joints.

Thanks for your input yes it's steroids I did ask about Synvic one which is a fluid injection into the knee which apparently replaces a natural occurring fluid but it's not a nhs procedure anything that helps control the pain I'd try bearing in mind I can't have painkillers and gels are no good
