The work i do is physical and my pain is getting unbearable, especially in knees and thumbs.I have a friend who swears by these products, do they work for anybody else??

Hi Sam sorry no one has answered your post. I really have no idea what taking ginger and coconut oil will do never having used it. I can only say give it a go and see. I have tried many things but unfortunately I just gave up as nothing seemed to work. You must also make sure that what ever supplements you take will not interfere with any thing else you might be taking. Good luck with it all.

Hi Sam - I don't have RA but a different autoimmune arthritis called Ankylosing Spondylitis I use coconut oil a lot in my food (homemade breakfast cereal and in curries) and since Christmas have adopted a lower carb diet - losing 3/4 of a stone - now just over 11st There are studies out there in coconut oil being anti inflamatory like this one http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24613207 but some compare different fats / foods and the inflammation, this one is interesting http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3650498/ My view is that coconut oil SCFA may be anti inflammatory but would only help if you are avoiding other foods that might be causing inflammation Ginger is unlikely to harm you - unless someone says it interferes with meds - and it's delicious anyway. Especially with chocolate or fruit like rhubarb.

Sam , I am the same as lois , we both had RA for a long time , myself over 20 years , & tried loads of things but nothing realy works , some things make it worse :ie some foods like tomatoes , oranges , grapes , apples but it varies from person to person when I first had RA was desperate to find something that helped , only thing I found is dont trust anything you read in the daily press or online just trust the main UK charities , the NHS site is not much help

Hello Sam, If you have a look at Arthritis Research UK, which is a main UK charity, online. Type in ginger at the top right hand of the page and a load of info will pop up. One study resulted in 61% of patients treated with ginger supplements, had a significant reduction in pain levels. I believe that knowledge is power and read every thing I can get hold off. I am an intelligent woman and can decipher the good from the bad , but I always keep an open mind & in doing so I have not required mainstream medicine. I buy raw ginger and cut a slice off and eat it like that every day. Its quite hot but its a good anti inflammatory and great for digestion and nausea.

Hi Colin - it appears from a previous study of nearly 100 people that food reactions vary for everyone but there are common ones corn 56% wheat 54% bacon/pork 39% oranges 39% milk 37% oats 37% rye 34% egg 32% beef 32% coffee 32% malt 27% cheese 24% grapefruit 24% tomato 22% peanuts 20% cane sugar 20% butter 17% lamb 17% lemon 17% soy 17% This data from the 1990s study is also backed up by recent PHD research into the Autoimmune Protocol and identifying triggers by elimination. These 10 people studied closely found which foods, gave what reactions in different timescales. You will see they nearly all mentioned grains too. http://paleozonenutrition.com/2016/07/02/rheumatoid-arthritis-and-diet-what-worked-for-10-people/

Sean , it is interesting , could find so much wrong with the study if you wanted but there seems to be groups of foods that causes problems , know mine & I am fine with dairy & Gluten but some fruit & nightshades do it when the do alergy test for foods its only covers the foods that you eat yourself & dont show everything you could have problems with , I still think its all to do with how your body deals with digestive enzymes that goes into the blood system , there are reports that some people with weight loss surgery (gastric sleeve) have found their RA improved , in some ways thinking if they can find out why & try to break down which of the red cells are attacking the joints , they could then protect people with autoimmune problems better myself , been taken me off Methotrexate because of long term problems being on it for 18 years & since trying a Pyrimidine synthesis inhibitor {leflunomide), I have been alot better of even after not having my biologic & need to wait until I have knee replacement later this year to go back on it
