Subject: Enbrel

Hello to you all ,
I have RA. Diagnosed 21 years ago and probably around before that for all I know. Untreated for first 10 years and then a big flare....suffer... Pain.... Changed life ... Etc etc. Now after jumping through the medical hoops, - sulfasalazine, methotrexate pills, methotrexate injections, Humira, I finally got Embrel which has been at least on the surface, a success story. I would just like to ask the probably common question, of what you do if you are on doxycycline for what would seem to be a chest infection. I had a cold 2 weeks ago n as usual these days, it became a cough and diagnosed over the phone, my doc gave amoxicillin....no good then to try doxy. I have been nearly 3 weeks without Embrel n the change all over is frightening. I want to go back on it because I wonder if because I feel so much better on it, that will actually HELP n not lower my immune system. Has anyone any thoughts on this. I do not have a temperature. I cannot get hold of a support nurse because it is bank holiday.

hi Katie , are you still on Mtx ? , I had problems with skin infection & leg ulcers & told to stop Mtx but keep Sulfhpa & leflunomide & Rituximab , I had RA since mid 90s , I would follow professional help , Embrel will stay in your system for a few weeks

Arthritis Care & National Rheumatiod Arthritis Society have free help lines , find in in the link sections above

Hi Colin,
I am only on Enbrel. One injection a week. I have also had RA since 1995!
I was originally told that my R A was a viral form and it did a brill job at making me think positive cos I thought it had gone! It was only 10 years later with lots of stress and menopause that it came back and got me.
I have jumped through all the usual hoops on the NHS and was offered Embrel over 2 years ago.
Now if I get a cold, which isn't often, I get a lung infection and I now have bronchioectsasis. I have also developed a vocal cyst which needs an op soon. Other than that, the RA is well controlled and I am able to lead a more active life.
How about you?
