Subject: Hi Colin

Looks like I will be starting on Methotrexate or Sulfasalazine. Going to see the nurse on the 28th August. I was sent a copy of the letter sent to my gp. it showed borderline Rheumatoid factor of 40 negative ANA. ESR elevated at 39 with a CRP of 15. Means nothing to me to be honest. At last some one is doing their job.

How are things your end?

that is interesting , RF is a bit strange and being low (ish) dont prove anything for the doctors , your ESR is high but it varies from person to person , CRP should be under 5 , over 10 implies there is inflamation & Meth or Sulfa should help & stop more damage being done , shame they did not do the bloods years ago , did they mention Psoriatic Arthritis ?

as for us , mother-in-law is in stroke rehab unit & is realy nice ward , she wants to come home but needs 24/7 nusring care , she plays my wife up but trying to get out of bed but cant stand or walk , still has problems talking & right arm/hand is totaly parilised , bit of movement in her right leg , atleast she can drink & eat soft foods , we are pretty knackered & could do with day of visiting , think she needs to be in hospital for couple of months

I am sorry to but in but Lois , your scenario with late diagnosis is a mirror of my own. Your hospital isn't the Lister by any chance ?

Hi Colin, glad to hear your mum in law is in a rehab ward. They usually are staffed by lovely nurses. I bet she does want to come home and who could blame her. Oh dear your poor wife I know all about that my Mum is exactly the same and it can drag you down.
Lets hope the physio ect does the job for her and gets her back on her feet.
Good that she is eating soft foods and drinking again. I have no doubt she will be in hospital for some time. Is there any one else who could visit and let you have a day off. Family Neighbour or family friends maybe.

They did mention Psoriatic arthritis but have come up now with Rheumiatoid I am not sure. I will have a good chat with the nurse. Thanks for your input and support. This forum has been so good for me.
Take care x

Hi Hayley, you have that in one. I only moved to Hertfordshire a couple of years ago. I don't like Lister at all.

Hayley, I hope you are being treated better now.
I had so much faith in my old hospital I thought maybe I wasn't giving them a chance. At least I know different now.
Take care x

Lois I recommend you ask to be seen by another rheumy. I think like me you have been treated appallingly . I moved to Herts / Cambs border recently and now go to Addenbrookes , the quality of care is very different. I hate confrontation ,but sometimes when it comes to our health we need to make a stand and demand the care we deserve ! Hope it all gets sorted for you soon.

I have heard lots of good reports about Addenbrookes but unfortunately I don't drive so it would be a bit far but I will definitely keep it in mind. You take care x
