hi lol , the drugs are to stop the joint damage , when I first started with RA in 1996 I would see loads of older RA sufferers with fingers drifting which was a sign of RA , you dont see it now & thats mostly because of methotrexate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_deviation

hi colin you have helped me in the past glad you answered me I have been on methotrexate for 18mts now and so doing ok only had a couple of flare ups and had steroid injections and was ok. a mth ago I started with a flare up on my left hand fingers palm wrist couldn't move it was crying with pain, it settled down but it not go. it then went into my right hand same thing, settled down and went into my left again this has been going on for a mth also got it in my shoulder and arm so much pain like having a broken arm just before my flare up I got a viral infection still have it really ill with it rhummy nurse said noway can you have a steroid with the viral infection so have been left with this its settled down today but know it will be back arm is still bad pain was so bad I was vomiting with it. I am on 6 methotrexate a week when I am better will increase them does it mean the methotrexate is not working with having so many flare ups never had so much pain couldn't even lift a cup just been in bed hope you can help with some answers

the trouble with pain , its such a personal thing , most pain killers work well for headaches & things like leg alcers but never found them work well for arthritis & dont take any for it , some of the patches do work as do the higher strength codeine (30mg) , you could try some gels like volarol gel like advertised on tv , you can get it on presciption do hope everything settles down again , cant help much with the viral infection but most only last couple of weeks , talk to your GP about controling the pain or even getting steriod injection
