Hi Colin I have just read the article with great interest. I have just received paperwork for bloods and x-rays. Then I will be called to see a Rhuemy Team.
At least I can go with a bit more information. I was told my finger joints Dips and Pips damage was definitely OA now I am so not convinced.
I will prepare a list of questions to take.
I am going Friday for test then I will be pushing for a quick appointment. Although it does say I have to wait Ten days for all results to be back.

The steroid part was interesting for me as I sometimes have to take steroids for my Asthma and surprisingly my pain all disappears.

How are you doing?

That was good read Colin.

I do enjoy some of the comments the readers put down - one stating that aspirin helped the person for nearly 20 yrs as its a blood thinner and with R.A our blood seems to thicken up so that's interesting.

Hope your doing well with RTX

Interesting Colin - a question

If they had tested for CCP would it have come back as positive? I thought ACCP test was 95% specificity for RA - whereas RF was < 70%.

Why do they bother to test for RF if the ACCP test is more informative - I think it should be ACCP test first then RF test to firm up treatment options

suz , some of the comments are funny , ie: dont take pain killers but take aspirin ,

Sean , think ACCP test is alot lower around 70% , the RF test is easy for GP's & account for around 80% but even being positive dont mean you have RA , the people with very high RF tend to be the ones that will end up with severe RA & joint damage , also think it would comeback negative for people with Sero , my sister is sero but pretty mild , but dont look after herself , her daughter has it as well as some very serious conditions like Addison's disease , dont know why I would be positive & other members of my family negative , implys mine is caused by other factors
