Subject: cadmium antibodies

seen my consultant today , & he has decided to bring forward my next infusion by two months & keep on the steriod levels I am on until after next infusion , which I am pretty pleased about

anyway he has a couple of pet subjects , one is heavy metal causing RA , & he knows I used to work in & run a foundry , & asked him about cadmium , he said normaly you develop cadmium antibodies & they beleive this can cause develop into RA but may take some years , he sais most people develop cadmium antibodies because of smoking & with the body not able to get rid of thes antibodies they can last up to 15 years in the system

Thanks for that info, Colin. Is he saying that you can go into remission after 15 years?

lol was wondering what is remission in RA

what he said is that the body cant deal with cadmium antibodies & you can develop problems like autoimmune disorders (RA) after several years , mine was like 6 years after having problems & developing industrial asthma , one thing he did say was that they can test for cadmium antibodies ,

I'm wondering about remission too, lol!

Thanks, I might ask, though I don't suppose I will get anywhere. Could you go for industrial injury compensation?

I did get industrial injuries benifit & still do , had 100% for 12 months & 30% since then but had to repay the first 5 years back , the goverment changed it a year later & would not had to pay it back

I got compensation from my employers at the time for asthma , & that was before I developed RA , but would never be able to link the two at the time

Why on earth did you have to pay it back? That sounds quite wrong.

I know it can be hard to prove a link with some things. My GP says it would be of no benefit to me to make the link with cadmium paint, it would just upset me. I guess she is right but it would be nice to know for sure.

Hi Colin

This is really interesting mentioning cadmium in section V - which also has a good pitch for. Magnesium

Section VIII is also interesting.

It's a short to the point paper covering a number that f autoimmune diseases -

That is interesting, Sean. I've got quite a few of those factors in section V in my history. Plus I have been diagnosed with a magnesium deficiency in the past.

I don't think it is necessary to have anti-cadmium antibodies - as the presence of cadmium itself has an effect in antibody to other proteins.

Cadmium also changes the immune responses to bacterial infection - and stimulates an inflammatory response rather than a regulatory one. Another nod to bacteria (in hand with other factors)

This paper says what happens at the time of antigen (in this case bacteria) presentation - when the immune system is primed with co stimulation (in this case cadmium)

http://downloads.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/aip/295303.pdf

It says -

"explains the potential of long-term Cd exposure to elevate the risk of chronic inflammation following bacterial infection as previously concluded from epidemiologic studies."

What this means is that Cadmium (and Mercury and lead) stimulate excessive antibody response to bacteria.

Sean , thanks for the link , dont totaly understand it , all those metals I used to work with apart from mercury , what the doctor said is that most these antibodies develop in the lung & why there is a link between smoking & RA ,

looked at the download as well , it totaly goes over my head but it is very interesting & atleast they are looking into it more , what it dont explain it how we develop a autoimmune disorders from heavy metal antobodies , something must trigger our immune system to turn on its self

when I developed industrial asthma it was within days of having a allergic reaction to being covered with red paint , the resins used in the paint colophony (rosin as used by violin players) is used also a the flux in soldering/brazing & I developed a allergy to it causing asthma , why develop RA 6 years later dont explane it but I am sure it is linked

Julie , the main cause is smoking & maybe why they know there is a link between smoking & RA , the plants pick up minerals , other causes are industial use like smelting / foundries & through some paints , but they are looking into all heavy metal posining & not just cadmium
