Subject: cash payout
Just wanted to let people know that you could be eligible for the one off cash sum. We are registered (the person who looks after me, my husband Dave, reistered with Carers Support) and we were entitled to a one off payment of £200. We didn't know about this but found out when I asked at g.p. at the time of flu injections if my husband could have his free aswell, they said if he was my carer then he could, because if he got flu then I would be vulnerable. He is my carer but not a paid carer we don't claim carers allowance, so the receptionist said that he didn't have to be paid to be my registered carer but needed to register with carer support. The surgery sends off the paperwork and carers support get back to you to ask questions. Dave helps me with such a lot of things and he just told them what he does for me. We got lots of money saving deals with a card to use in certain shops, free access to swimming. Our group which is run by East Riding Council offer some holiday accommodation at reduced rate. They did not tell us of the £200. but as I worked in Social services for most of my working life I have lots of friends still there and one of the girls actually told my daughter (she is a friend of hers) to tell Dave to claim. He did and got the 200 which he can spend on whatever he wants. We have to save receipts to add up to the 200 but over a year, we save petrol slips and other things he has bought himself to help him do jobs. Just thought I would pass it on. I hope this applies to each Carer Support Service in all areas.
