Anyone interested in diet to complement their existing regime in the quest for well being, should google this guy. I have found his recipes easy to follow and he has achieved the ultimate goal " remission " . Plenty of info online and he comes across as a nice person. There was a recent article he did in the Telegraph about how he cured his arthritis.

Hi Ella, started to read his article and went right off him when he said it's not like OA just an ache in the hands. I wish that was the case.
Sorry won't be reading any more.

By the way how are you doing? Take care and I wish you well x

He certainly eats a healthy diet. I'm not sure whether the daily blood tests would get the go-ahead on the NHS, however, I have seen a nutritionist lately. She recommended addition of a lot of Omega 3 in my diet as well as fish oil, which I don't tolerate well but I'm trying a new enteric coated one.

I've also read that sourdough bread is better for your gut as it is fermented and more easily digested. It's helped my IBS quite a bit.
My GP is a big fan of intermittent fasting. I tried and did well for 3 weeks then went off the wagon. I plan to have another go at it . It's supposed to be good in all kinds of ways.

Lois I agree , I have inflammatory OA and it is not just an ache in the hands ! Sleek Fox, I didn't know that you had IBS , me too. I think we can all relate to one another. I am came out of hospital this morning, nothing to do with arthritis "womans problems". Luckily thanks to work I have BUPA so spent a few days in relative luxury ! x

Seamus Mullen had an interview in men's health magazine - it says -

"Recent blood tests suggest that Mullen's new approach to life is working. The rheumatoid arthritis appears to have vanished completely. He's also been experimenting with a so-called ketogenic diet think Atkins on steroids, with heaps of animal fat, fresh vegetables, and no grain-based foods or sugar"

I suspect from this he knows he felt better on grain free too.

I found a free podcast with him from last year - it mentions that he paid a lot of attention to gut / microbiome too 😊

Diets are so hard... This year I will be attempting to extend my own diet to reduce my carbs further closer to big salads with meat, veg and fruits - with no beans either.

Thank you both and yes SF I must admit it, apart from the medical interruptions, it was quite enjoyable ! Although its amazing how a house can get so dirty when your away for a few days and the dogs lead doesn't seem to have moved from where I left it before I went.....

Ella you made me chuckle you sound just like me....

Our dog's are so No 1. My poor girl has a bad hip 10yr old German Shepherd. So what with me hubby and dog we all walk with a limp LOL.
The only difference the dog can't have a walking stick.
I bet the house isn't all that bad I get accused of having OCD and sometimes I think they can't all be wrong. I have calmed down a bit no choice.

Joking aside take it easy the housework can wait. The dog can be cuddled all day and keep you company. XXXXXX

Lois, German Shepherds are in my top three favourites , really loyal breed. I have a lurcher known for their speed and agility, so possibly not the best choice for an arthritis sufferer. She spends most of her time hogging the sofa and I have sometimes moved to the not so comfy chair, so she can stretch out. Very spoilt but yes she is also No 1 xxx

German shepherds are our favourite family dog. My son had two black ones sadly gone now. My daughter had a grey long hair one sadly gone also. We are on our third one just love them. My youngest son had two Boxers another lovely breed he just has one now.
My nephew had a Lurcher he was just lovely and also loved the sofa.
Family of dog lovers. It is a lovely forum and after a while every one supports everyone else and share many things aside arthritis. I always say we are great friends that have never met.
Lovely chatting with you.
Take care xx

Hi my name is Meg and I have rhematoid arthritis. I am also a medical herbalist and I am determined to beat this. I have found a great improvement by just eliminating gluten, dairy and sugar from my diet. Sugar causes inflammation within 20 minutes. I substitute honey for sugar and its ok for me. Turmeric taken as 1 heaped tsp in hot water 2 - 3 times a day also helps. Daily range of movement and gentle exercises are also very important. Salads are great to have at least one a day and at least 2 litres of water a day. It may be hard to stick to the diet etc at first but the benefits are close to miraculous. I hope I hhave helped some people as living with R A is hell. Take care xxx

I agree Meg, diet is SO important and I believe not only is a healthy diet imperative to conquering these diseases, I think sugar is a killer. Turmeric has been really beneficial for me in lowering inflammation, but I have to take it in capsule form as I hate the taste !!!
