Welcome to the forum, Lyn. You will get plenty advice on here and everyone is so friendly. It could be something to do with the way that you are walking that causes the better hip to feel worse, it is probably taking all the strain. x

Hi Lyn, welcome as Rhona said it is hard to hold yourself correctly when in pain. Your better hip will be taking all the strain and you can also get referred pain. I hope you have good pain meds. Have they suggested anything to you? Exercise surgery medication. I would take it you have Osteo Arthritis. I have this myself so I understand your pain. Take care and post back and lets us know how you are doing. X

Hi - I too have arthritis (OA) in both hips, one more than the other. It's been manageable for past few years, but more recently I've found it hard to sleep at night with painful hips and shins. Just discovered Voltarol (the stronger 12 hour one) and that seems to work well for me - I just put some on in the morning and some at night. I'm less tired now and able to go swimming again, which helps me a lot.

The operation and recovery for hip replacement is relatively easy and the results usually good. The reason being that the hip, unlike the knee ,is less weight bearing and is not a rotating ball and socket. I had my knee replacement with an epidural, rather than anaesthetic and I would recommend it to anyone having replacement surgery. It is totally pain free and recovery is much easier.
