I have been to physio exercise classes and gp

Have you tried hydrotherapy? It's supposed to be very good for OA in knees.

Hi Wendy

I do longish distance running (exercise is good for my form of arthritis) when i feel up to it and have had knee problems at times - do you ever wear a knee support?

Also - the main thing with exercise and knees is the strengthen the quadriceps as with some exercise these can waste.

If you go to the gym do leg raises on the "machine" with light to slightly heavier weights (dont do it if it hurts!). It will strengthen the muscle that works the ligaments and take pressure off the joiint.

Here's a medical study on weak quads and knee pain in osteoarthritis.

Hi Wendy, I think you should go back to the GP, yes. Arthritis can deteriorate faster than you'd expect just from 'wear and tear'... For example, in April 2012, X-rays showed my R hip had 'moderate' arthritis in line with my age, but by Aug 2013, X-rays showed "severe arthritis with a complete loss of joint space, large osteophytes and sclerosis in the surrounding tissue". I'm having a hip replacement now.
Hope you get it sorted. :)
