Subject: Knee Pain

Hi im 79 years of age and i had been complaining of pain in my knee but just took it for granted it was just wear and tear, but over the last two weeks the pain became unbearable and i went to the doctor who wants to refer me to a specialist he put me on DICLAC cream and IXPRIM tablets,
to be honest cant say that it has helped the pain at all, my knee has swollen and certain parts unbearable to touch, with a hot feeling over it

what i wanted to know while i wait to see a specialist is what can i do for the pain, i got a resusable ice pack bag which i find helpful at night in bed as i was finding it hard to sleep, and a knee support i got in a chemist to help arthritis which i wear when im walking etc,

just wondering if there is any other type of pain relief i can get any help or clues while i suffer with this pain , did read about this balm was just wondering if anyone had used it :

hi Mabl , welcome to the forum , have they done xrays on your knee & is any other joint playing up

the voltaren gel is very good & use it myself , there is other anti-inflammatories tables they can give you & I would ask for some , all the gels over the counter are very similar to Devil's claw which is a lot cheaper but its not good for a hot joints

Hi Mable, It sounds as though you have inflammation in the knee and as Colin has said anti-inflammatory's can help. Perhaps you also have fluid in the knee and it might need drained. I often get mine drained and then a steroid injection put into it and it does make a difference. If the pain is unbearable you could pop into your A&E and get them to xray it.

Mabel, Just watch for infection, if it gets red and hot then take yourself off to A&E. Also, they can give you a steroid injection into the knee and they can also take the fluid off the knee if there is any there. It can be a bit of a wait until an appointment comes through so don't leave it if it is unbearable.
