Subject: feel good today

Isn't it weird how for weeks i could sleep on a clothes line cos was getting no sleep at night due to aches and pains. Now i feel really energetic, worked a night on the ward on thrusday night, slept like a log yesterday, better than ever, got up and did 6 hours at the pub behind the bar, felt good apart from some elbow and hand pain!! yippeeee. Shame it doesn't last but will make most of it, off to work the late shift and hope i still feel like this later!!

I still feel good tonight and my hands are almost feeling normal, my right elbow still sore but everything else is ok. Maybe it's the sunshine we have had for a change lol!! I do hope i carry on feeling this good so i can get a few nights sleep. If and when the pain comes back do you think it will be worth me asking for something to help me sleep???

Hi anita

I rarely sleep thru, i get uncomfy fast, and wake throughout the night, I personally havnt slept a str8 5 to 8 hours in years, so I am the wrong person to ask Anita, soz, even Diazapam dont let me sleep! In the past I had sleeping pill, but any good doctor wont let u have them for more than a week or two, as they are addictive! plus they dont work after a while either, I wish I new the answer for you, but i dont, cos im desperate to sleep though too LOL

glad your feeling good at mo.... remember to Not catnap in the day! will help u at night, alchohol isnt helpful either

oh i gave up alcohol when i was ill with my tumour cos any medication makes me sick with booze!! my joints are still ok today, except my back but that's always same and i rarely notice anymore as long as i don't stand for long periods without moving or i am crippled then. I can use my hands which is fab, not sore at all today and can open bottles etc, no swollen fingers either. That's weird when my finger becomes puffy then it goes down then it gets puffy again, dead strange, gets sore too but not red.

I had a very rare aggressive angiomyxoma, caused a hell of a lot of problems that did and it can still come back. I shrunk the rest of it away with Tamoxifen and that's what i thought my joint problems were caused by initially, however, i did get big ovarian cysts next and collapsed and had to have the ovaries out, hence i then thought the menopause caused my joint problems, who knows!!! I have to go to London for regualar MRI scans to see if it has come back (it probably will). It has only killed twice so that's something LOL!!

yeah seronegative, he thinks it's psoriasic as my dad has psoriasis and i had 'eczema' as a child, i do have a scabby scalp so he thinks thats P. Its the sacroiliac joints that have given it away apparantly. Might need MRI, have physio and OT to see too. My hands are good at moment, been sore and puffy for a while. My knees and hips are bad and my tempomandibular joint is really sore too. Go back to rheumy on 11th may, just waiting for CCP and HLA bloods to come back, they take a while as have gone off to sheffield hospital apparantly.

Gosh Jill I am lucky then, you sound in terrible pain. I think all my pain has calmed down, my jaw is still a bit sore tho. My back is ten times better today, i took a voltarol at bedtime last night and it seems to have calmed it down, mind you i am used to it being like that it's just when the hip gets sore i have to take something. My hands are great and have been for a few days, dare i hope it wont come back for a while?? I did this last year and it lasted about a week or so then it came back!

My biggest worry is that now my joints have started to flare (except my back cos i had that for years) does it mean it will slowly get worse and I will end up with a stick or in a wheelchair or am i being dramatic?? Also what if i do end up having to take methotrexate, will this affect my job, having a compromised immune system won't work well with nursing i don't suppose

Thing is Anita, having regular flare ups isnt good for your joints, everytime you have a flare up, it may cause a little bit more extra damage t your joints, then you wld need corrective surgery, beleive me you dont want all that.... I truly beleive, if they have given me methtrex and enbrel a few years ago, i wouldnt have needed7 ops to date!...For your well being, going on methtrexate will help youŠ(altho methtrexate alone for me didnt) thast y im on the injections, But i get less flare ups, which means less pain.... regards your Job tho, I really dont know, you are allowed the flu jab, that might help, I dont get that many colds etc to be honest, but working in a hosp, well I think u need to clear that important question up with your specialist... I think tho, sometimes we have to do a trade off.....in the long run, going on mtx etc will benefit you, but then theres your job.... hey mb u can ask someone on here(new topic) about the Meds and Nursing, must be a nurse out there that is on those meds ?

take care

ps You might need a stick, crutch at some point in your life, If i get bad, i use my Mobility scooter< yet to look at me, i look young and a picture of health, but if im having a bad day, as long as the stick helps me, thats all that matters, I doubt very much u will be in a wheelchair permanently, maybe when your 99 LOL

thanks Jill, yes i will ask at work about the drugs you mention cos i wouldn't want to be at risk, i don't usually catch anything, i am quite lucky, not one cold all winter this time!! My joints are still doing well, my hands are back to normal and only my elbow giving me grief (the one that needs the carpal tunnel surgery), can get out of car easy as well which is a bonus at moment!!

I had carpal tunnel operations on both hands 21 years ago(just after my first baby girl was born) so glad i had them done, the pain was unbearable....apparently, carpal tunnel is usually the first signs of Arthritis... thats when all mine began

good luck with that Anita
