Hi, has anyone suffered from achilles problems as part of their RA or seronegative arthritis? What treatment were you given and how successful has it been? I have had problems with both achilles for over 12 months and cannot see much improvement. Thanks

Hi Louise, I was diagnosed RA recently. I haven't got a diagnosis yet on the problems you mention but I definitely have issues on the back of my heel and the achilles tendon. Basically I have been unable to go down the stairs for the last 2 months now, and the rigidity of the achilles tendon and/or the pain in the back of the heel makes me walk limping all the time. Last week I talked to my rheumatologist about this and she referred me to a radiologist who will check my heels and achilles with ultrasound to see where the problem is - then he might be able to inject local anti-inflammatory to the sight of the infallamtion if needed. I haven't got the appointment yet, but as soon as I have any results I can let you know. What medication are you on for your RA? I started methotrexate at the end of November, no improvements so far. But last week I got a painkiller (diclofenac) which reliefs most of my heel and other pains but I know I cannot use this drug on a long term.

Hello Hajni, I'm currently on sulfasalazine, plaquenil and naproxen. My rhuemy did not want to inject my achilles due to the risk of rupture and I do not want to take oral steroids. I am keen to find out if there are any meds which are particularly successful in treating tendon problems. Would you let me know how you get on. Thanks Louise
