Subject: Just a quick point

can I just say Arthritis is a very painful disease which ever form we suffer with. Why do people refer to arthritis as aches and pains. It is so much more than that. I have Osteoarthritis and I hear people all the time say oh its aches and pains. Well can I say live in my shoes since I was 30yrs I have been in pain constantly and have had back and elbow surgery with more surgeries to come. I have to take pain meds every day to move around.
Sorry for this little rant but I just need to put the record straight I get very frustrated when I read the statements on this forum "just arthritis" "a few aches and pains".
I have taken time to learn about all the different arthritis since joining this forum and I feel for every single person that suffers in one way or another. I understand people get frustrated and angry about what people say to them but I get frustrated as well.
Rant over!!!

I agree Marlene. I don't have any treatment for my arthritis cos' the doctors usually say lose weight, exercise and paracetamol so I don't bother complaining anymore. I have a mixture of PA, and Osteo it affects my back, knees, shoulders so walking far is out, exercise is painful hence I find losing weight hard and I am overweight. Paracatemol, co-codomol don't have any effect. So I just sit on the nearest thing i.e. stacks of beans in Asada or the shelf stackers stool!! lol When the pain as subsided I set off again. I would love to say get better soon Marlene, but I know it's a daft thing to say just hope your having a painfree (ish) day! Kath n Moz xx

hi marlene , thought Osteo was what you get when we get old so you must be about 105 now , still dont get how they dont treat people with inflammatory osteoarthritis like the people with RA , PsA etc , the results are the same & dont see why they dont treat the inflammation the same

rant over!!!

You can have Osteo and Rheumatoid together!
My friend has and says I probably have to!

Here here Marlene, "aches and pains," it is delibiliatating, deformative, life destructing and down right bloody aweful!!!

Plus not many medications help that much!!!!

Joined in your rant and feel better x

I remember going to my doctor years ago before I knew it was RA that I had and she looked at my shoulder and said it's just a wee touch of rheumatics and I got the bums rush out the door. Most people don't realise how painful it can be Marlene, especially if you look alright.

I don't think I realised how painful and debilitating arthritis was until I got it around 6 months ago, and was diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis with a crp of 115 and esr of 126 I was in absolute agony and could barely walk. I've been on methotrexate since and have now had sulfazalizine added in which I'm taking along with co-codamol 30/500 and naproxen. Looking likely I will need an anti TNF as bloods still high although I'm not in as much pain but I have had 4 steroid injections in 4 months that I think is helping. I never expected to be like this at the age of 34, but your right no one understands the pain we go through!

When I was first diagnosed with RA I thought 'oh is that all' as I was in so much pain I thought I had cancer or something ! ...I didn't realise how bad it was at the time ..I think the problem is that everyones heard of arthritis but no-one understands it unless they've got it ... I think that the word arthritis should be dropped and just call it rheumatoid / osteo disease ... Then people might listen a bit more ..I to get sick of people saying things like "oh I've got a bit of that in my knee etc" ...Its such a painful illness that seems to be misunderstood by everyone apart from those who suffer from it

Sandy I so agree. My sister in law said when I was diagnosed, 'oh I have that.. everyone gets it when they get older' !!
When you hear some people talk everyone has it,.. so flippent.. so annoying. I dont think they realise the other stuff that goes with it, the tiredness, the derpression. Well thats my rant over. Take care ppl, big hugs

What is that saying 'Ignorance is bliss' just about covers it with the 'diseases' we have with the lack of understanding from 'normal' people
