Subject: Advice about benefits please.
Hello everyone, this is my first time here but would like to jump in the deep end. I have OA in the right hand (thumb and fingers and wrist),i have already had the left hand fused and plates fitted (this relieved pain but left my hand frustratingly useless in many situations). My GP has told me now that my right hand will have to undergo surgery... My problem is that i run a small sign business, that is becoming virtually impossible to run now,and i receive working tax credits. If i can't work any more, the hours needed for tax credits, will i be considered for any disability benefits. I am already in a situation whereby my wife does a hell of a lot for me in order that i dont suffer to much, what i would do without her i just dont know. I am 48 years young and also should mention that knee joints and shoulders are increasingly showing similar symptoms. Thanks

Hi Daniel, I saw your post and felt I must answer you. Firstly welcome to the forum. I also have OA but I was lucky enough to be able to work until I retired two years ago. I have only recently had a lot of problem with one hand. My oa has been in shoulders elbow and back after surgery in elbow great success the back surgery has not been so great. Anyway less of me I think you best bet would be to go to Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them to help you fill out the forms. I am unsure what makes you eligible for benefits. Your wife sounds fantastic I also have a supportive husband so that's makes us fortunate people. Good Luck keep your chin up and good luck with your surgery. Let me know how you get on.
