Subject: codeine addiction

Hello I have osteo arthritis in both my knees and as I have got myself a little job(totally not a hard or tiring job) I have been getting an awful lot of pain so I am taking more painkillers I try other things hot bath etc but they dont help anyway the pain killers I have been given are codeine and naproxen and I am worried about becoming addicted to the codeine ones should I really be that worried

Hi Rob, as long as you don't take anymore than prescribed for you all should be well.
You say you need more pain relief then it is time to see your GP and say its not working for you and what else can you have. I take Co-codamol and Tramadol. I do have to take them sometimes the full dose sometimes not.
Your GP will be watching what you are prescribed and should routinely do a six monthly blood test for kidney and liver function. If nothing has been mentioned about bloods you bring it up with your GP.

I am also an OA sufferer so I do understand. Take care and Chin up. X
