Subject: Help please!!!

I feel like a ping pong ball!!! stuck between my GP who thinks I have an inflammatory arthritis and the rheumatologist who doesn't. My symptoms are - burning painful joints, slight swelling, symmetrically affected, tiredness, very stiff I the morning (45mins-1hr), red & burning palms. Bloods shown very slight elevation rheum factor, CRP fine. Had this for over 6 months and its getting me down. Mum had rheumatoid arthritis. I feel like crap, I need a diagnoses so that I can either get treatment of accept that I have possible osteoarthritis and this is it, and learn to live with it. Has anyone any advice? I have at long last got an appointment through for an ultrasound scan of my joints. Has anyone else experienced a frustrating and drawn out diagnoses?

Hi Kat, It does take time to get it all sorted. When you have had your ultra sound you should get a better idea of what is going on. Hang in there!!

Has your GP given you any medication at all?
Take care X

Hi Kat, I know how you feel. It has taken me over a year to get medication. I still feel fustrated. My appts get cancelled, everything takes months, and it does get you down. I started nearly 2 years ago and my GP gave me pain killers and anti inflammatories. My ESR was very high, so got referred t the Rhuemy, which took another few months! I'm sure people at work think I'm a hypochondriac, I feel I'm one at times myself. I would think an x-ray would probably be better, tho I know they do ultrasound on hands. Keep in touch, take care. Shouting and crying helps!!

Thank you both for the advise. I'm only taking co-codamol & naproxen. These do help but some days only just take the edge off it. The last 3 days have been very painful, I know what you mean when you say that people must think that you're a hypochondriac!! I feel the same. But it really does hurt so much and it's so hard to get comfortable. I sometimes think am I imagining it?? My ankles are so painful this morning and really burning. As I said before rheumy doesn't think it's inflamatitry but GP does, does osteoarthritis burn and feel hot? It is so painful and I think I'm getting a bit down with it all. If it is osteo they say exercise is good for it so I've been walking the dog and keeping as active as I can, swimming as well. Work is getting a bit hard because I'm on my feet all day. Counting down days to scan, apparently the DR who does them is excellent, and if there is anything to be found she'll find it.
Thanks again for the support.

Hi Kat OA can feel hot and red but as I have suffered with OA for years the "really burning" feeling doesn't fit with what I feel. In the morning my joints are stiff and painful.
I feel you need a few more answers yet. Go to your Gp have a good chat and ask for some more pain relief until you have a diagnoses.
In the meantime keep your chin up and take care X

Hi
My feet burn, especially in bed, half the time I have them hanging out of bed. I get sharp stabbing pain in the "bunion' joint and ankles. They say mine is infammatory, but no-one has examined my feet and ankles. They are my worst areas. Hope you get sorted.
