Subject: just been diagnosed with psoriatic athritis

Hi i got diagnosed with Psoriatic athritis a couple of weeks ago and started taking methotrexate. I have taken it twice and i have come out in white spots and sore gums in my mouth. i feel exaughsted all the time and very irratable (not sure if that is to do with methotrexate). I have spoken to my GP today and she said not to take my meds this week and to see if this clears up the spots. would any of you know if this is the right advice.

hi Lesley , treatment for RA & PA are pretty much the same & methotrexate (Mtx) is thier drug they like to use .

your gums I expext are mouth ulcers which is normal side effect for Mtx and thats why we take folic acid & deals with a lot of the side effects , what dose Folic acid they given you & how many days a week & what strenght Mtx you on ? , its a good drug if you can get on with it & been on it 15 years myself

Hi Colin thanks for that. I am taking 2ml of folic acid every day apart from the day of Mtx. I am on 7.5ml of mtx but they want to build it up over the next few months. I dont think that they are mouth ulcers as i have had them before. these are like tiny little spots under the skin. The best way to explain the pain is like when you go to the dentist and have an injection it goes all numb well that is what mine feels like but very sore to touch or eat anything :(
