Subject: Leflunomide and Methotrexate anyone?

Hi all :)
I have not posted on here for ages. I have PA and for the last 18 months have been taking Leflunomide. It made a marked difference at first but over the last 9 months ish has become less effective. So the rheumatologist wants me to take methotrexate alongside the Leflunomide. Does anyone else take this combination? And if so did you find it good, bad or ugly?
Thanks :)

I take both of those medications together. I've been on 30mg of leflunomide for about 12 years, it became less effective about 2008 and I was started on Enbrel injections. I never had any problems with the leflunomide. The Enbrel stopped working in 2010 and changed to humira and 10mg of methotrexate (+ 5mg folic acid). I still didn't have any side effects from them. However since my methotrexate was increased to 15mg in October I've been getting headaches on the day I take my methotrexate and a few days later. I was recommended by one of my mums (I'm a teacher), who is also a rheumatology nurse and pa sufferer, to split my dose of mxt and take some in the morning and some in the evening which seems to be helping. At my appointment in December the rheumatologist said to increase my folic acid to three times a week. So I'll try that and see if it works. Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm also on this combination. Leflunomide 20mg and Methotrexate 15mg. I have had problems with daily nausea and upset stomachs. On methotrexate day I was advised to space the two meds out throughout the day (don't take together). I take folic acid 5 mgs x6 days per week. It hasn't been effective for me and I'm just waiting to go on Remicade. But, we're all different and react differently. Good luck with it.
