Subject: Ironing!

Dear All,

I am a Product Design Student from Strathclyde University Glasgow and I am research the process of ironing.

I would appreciate it if you could answer some questions about ironing and the difficulties any of you face throughout the process.

The main question would be; Is there a part of the process that you particularly struggle with - the setting up of ironing board, pouring water, the actual ironing - the iron handle maybe? or even the plugging in and out of the iron.

In particular when it comes to the actual iron are there any improvements you which to see. The weight of it, the handle grip, the buttons etc

How often do you iron and if so is it a full load at a time, or is it when you need a particular item at a time?

Any response would be helpful, thank you!

My email address is joanne.rainey@strath.ac.uk if you would like to help me in answering more questions relating to my project.

Joanne

Hi Joanne, Everything you have mentioned causes problems with ironing. I find the weight of the iron one of the main issues and i need one that has a cushioned handle.

Ironing can be difficult - I have a plastic pull on my plug, they are transparent and kind of wrap round the prongs. I proper handle on the plug would be good plus an ironing board that is easy to put up. I buy light irons but don't find them very good.
Maybe they should be ergonomically designed!

Hi Joanne, I iron only when things needed as last time I tried a 'pile' I couldn't use my arm for days - the movement was too much.
On a bad day - all of what Rhona and Bsk have said also.
other than that I avoid ironing like the plague - never did like it.

I tend to buy clothes that don't need ironing. I only iron the odd thing as and when. And my husband now has to iron his own clothes. I loathe ironing, lifes to much to short.
