Subject: Suspected Ankylosing Spondylitis :S

Hi every one

I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday in Cumnock. He discussed to me about the inflammation in my Sacroiliac joints he said that it has been there for quite a while. He has put me on 500mg of naproxen and sulphasalazine (sp). He said that he thinks it is AS but he wants to rule out everything else. My stomach problems and my red itchy eyes ( which i get every now and again)

7 months ago I left work because I had really bad back pain that actually made me unable to walk sometimes and now I have a condition. It is very daunting and I am actually a little scared to be honest. Pain moves about my body but i have consistent pain from dull aches to sharp and sharp pains in my wrists and knuckles. Sleeping isnt so good either I have to lay very flat to at least get some comfort.

To anyone who has AS or any advice you are more than welcome to send me a message.

There is an excellent website for people with AS. It is called Kickas.org There is loads of information on it. Many people on there follow a low starch diet which has been found to be beneficial for people with AS.

Hi Fiona
I really understand the pain - I have posted my story on the Personal Stories. I have been mostly better with the way I manage my arthritis - I do get occasional flare ups the last of which lasted about 4 months and caused a lot of stiffness, nasty pain & inflammation in my back and rib cage - but I have it back under control again with my diet and mineral / vitamin supps.
As Linda has said - KickAS is an amazing resource and was started by Dr. Alan Ebringer.
Ian's - Personal Story I saw today interests me as Aloe contains a lot of the minerals I take and has been shown to inhibit Klebsiella bacteria which is implicated as part of the disease mechanism. I am not suggesting you give up your medications - but encourage you to explore other avenues too.
Best wishes, Sean
