Subject: Just about to start on Humira can anyone give advise

Can anyone give me some positive advise on taking Humira, I have been told that delivery of Humira will be Tuesday next and a nurse will shown me how to inject. Has anyone on this forum been on it for a long time and what can I expect, I am a little nervous about the injections. Has anyone had any bad side effects? The nurse at the hospital went over several things but it would be nice to hear from people already on it.

Hi I've been on Humira for about a year and a half and its worked really well for me. Although I am a big wuss and unable to inject myself so my partner does it for me. I can hurt a bit as the humira goes in, but I find breathing out as its put in helps. I think I'm going to ask about changing from a syringe to the pen injectors when I go back to see the anti TBD nurse in Oct. I haven't had any side affects from the humira and I've only had one infection since being on it.

Hi maz I am on humira along with methotrexate been on it 2 months after failing with enbrel the morning after my 1 st injection I just couldn't believe how I felt in the morning I could make a fist while I was still in bed it was amazing I am still in some pain and do get swelling but it is nothing near as bad as it was so fingers crossed that after over 2 years of trying to find the right drug that I've now found it, the injection is for me a lot more painful that giving the enbrel it's the liquid going in that stings I would suggest leaving it out the fridge 20-30 mins before each injection, I hope you have positive results and let me know how you get on.

Just to reiterate what Lynn says, if you let the injection warm up to room temperature it doesnt hurt at all in my experience, hurts like hell if you inject it straight from the fridge!

Thanks to all for your comments . Its good to know that other peoples experiences can help others, thank you both for your comments regarding not to use straight from the fridge, that is very helpful.

Hi maz how have you been getting on did you start the humira? I have taken 4 injections and the treatment seemed to be great at the start but now I'm not so sure I'm still not in as much pain but getting very swollen again so fingers crossed its going to work this is the longest I've managed with any DMARD or anti tnf drug xx

Hi Lynnr,
My Humira has just been delivered 28.8.12 I have put it in the fridge and am now waiting for the nurse to ring me to show me how to do it. I haven't had anyone say that they have been on anti TNF's for a long period though. Its my knees that are the most painful. I am also a little apprehensive on what to expect. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Maz, I was on Enbrel for two and a half years before it stopped working and I was switched to humira. I didn't have any side affects from that either. Good luck.
