Subject: Headaches
Hi all, I've been take mtx for about 10 weeks now and was feeling really fab. The past 2 weeks I've had the most severe headaches. Feels like my heads in a vice and my eyes seem to be really sensitive to light. I've actually been off work this week which is the first time since I started having any symptoms. I waded through the fatigue and the pain to get to work but these headaches are so bad I couldn't manage. Surely this can't be normal. Aaa good as I feel on the mtx I don't think I can hack this???? Any advice

Hi Louise, I don't know if the mtx could be the cause or not but i think you would be best seeing your doctor, it may even be migraines that you have. I have been taking mtx for a while now and started a biologic drug a couple of months ago and i had bad pains in my head a couple of weeks ago although i think they may have been coming from my neck or jaw but it's best you get checked out. take care. x

Thanks very much. I was thinking I need to go Docs. I was waiting for RA nurse to ring me back but it's been a week now. I've heard people talking about the biological drugs on this forum. What are they?

Hi Lou, there are different types of biologics, i was on one called enbrel about 6 months ago but it didn't help, you inject it once a week. The one i am on at the moment is called rituximab and it is an infusion given at the hospital, it affects a different part of the immune system, i am still waiting to see if it is going to work. Usually you have to have tried mtx before they will consider you as they are expensive drugs. If the mtx is causing you problems then they may well give you one. I hope your headaches are easing off. take care x
