Hi Colin:),

Missed you my friend...YOu kinda got me worried....Sorry to hear you've been feeling unwell, I pray you get some sort of treatment that works for you soon...Are your eyes very sore?...

I've just returned from my dads appt...Colin, its kinda funny even before we left the house, he started to chicken out of having to take the injections and started to make excuses of, everyones got busy lives whose gonna make time for me to give me an injection:)...I'm feeling alot better now look the swellings gone down and the pains more bearable...

He was given a steroid injection afew days after he left the hospital, about 2 week ago, it has made a very dramatic difference to the swelling of his hand...but I told him this was a short term fix, he can't rely on or take steroids for too long because of the extreme side effects...Anyways long story short, Colin it turned out to be a small ready - filled syringe, which he can self administer...just like the Lantus he already uses for his diabetes...His other hands playing up now aswell as the rest of his joints so if he finds he can't inject himself than I can do this for him no problem its very similar to teh injections I gave to my Aunt...Oh, and yes they're trying Methotrexate again...hopefully this time the side effects may not be too bad as we're side stepping the stomach so to speak...

I can't understand why they took that long to give you Methotrexate, how many different meds did you go through before this was prescribed?...with my dad he was prescribed this on the very first appt...I suppose each rheumy has his own preferred course of action...I wouldn't be suprised if it has to do with the costs...Colin, thank you for being here, I always look forwards to your advice...Look after yourself and pop in once in a while;)p..xox

I keep you guys up to date on hows his getting on... Prayers

Yasmin , its all changed since I first had RA , 16 years ago , first they tried about 4 Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug , but all of them cause my Asthma to play up , they did not use the Disease modifying drugs like they do now .

have they given you a blood test booklet so you can monitor the results yourself , CRP & ESR is main ones to look out for + ALT to make sure the Mtx dont affect his liver , how many folic acid are they giving him a week ?

hope he gets some benifit soon from the injection

Hi Colin, Sorry to hear that your eyes haven't cleared up yet. Hope they get it sorted soon. Have you seen an eye specialist or is it just your doctor that prescribes the medication? It does sound as though you need something else if hasn't cleared after 6 weeks, make sure you get someone that knows about this sort of thing. x

Hi Colin,

No, they do the bloods at the hospital once a fortnight...So I really have no idea of his CPR/ESR levels...my brother usually takes him for his bloods, his not curious enough to ask anything, me I would find out each time how thing are going...Not too sure how many Folic acid tabs his on at mo either...Lost the thread alittle bit too much going on of late, haven't really had time to sit and talk to him properly...I'm just rushing hither and fro all the time...

Colin how long have you had Asthma, are you on Inhalers?...

Marlene, so nice to see your name pop up, I was thinking about you all ( willis, Patricia, Bsk) yesterday wondering what everyone was upto:? Hope you are keeping well...x

Hi Yasmin, I was away at the week-end went to a 60s Soul tribute, thank goodness the rain stayed away as it was open air. Just around the corner from my daughters so we stayed over. I have been paying the price since,it was such a good night it was worth it. The pain is non stop with this weather. Life goes on just the same the best I can, I do try to stay cheerful although sometimes it is hard.
Yasmin I hope your Dad is doing OK.
Remember what I told you, take time for your self it is so important. A Lady told me once I was one of lifes little helpers, but remember to carry on being a helper I must take time to recharge or my batteries would run dry. She was so right, like you I look after my Mum she will be 88yrs in Novemeber, so I have to be at the best I can to care for her.
You can even just go to bed an hour early and read a book or just chilling, time out for you!!!!
Take care Yasmin xx

Hi Marlene,

Its so nice to hear someone have a lovely day regardless of its after effects;)p...It gives me a boost just listening to someone whose spirits have been lifted...Marlene, believe me I know what you are saying...Its taken me years to get the courage to say 'No'... at times, the little voice of guilt still has a go at me but not for long...I undertand now how important it is for me to be able to continue giving the help I can by recharging my own batteries...but sometimes life is unpredictable and before you know it you're stuck in situations you can't really get out of...Whats helping me cope now Marlene is not taking things too personally...dealing with the sitatuaions and letting them go...keeping up with my exercises, my meditation and finding a moment to just be... Meee...I love reading so much but my eyes have been playing up the last couple of years and my eyesight's been pretty bad...I can't read for long...normally I'm an avid reader who couldn't put a book down until it was finished;)...I really miss being able to do that...I've had my vision checked, i've been given reading glasses but overall my vision I'm told is perfect...I don't use the specs I've been given because they make my head spin...So the last couple of months now I've been doing some eye exercies every day which have improved my vision quite abit...but there are still times my vision gets blurred...I'm doing some facial massage and exercises too as my face, jaw and neck muscles seems to hold too much tension because I tend to keep my thoughts mostly to myself around my family...For 2 year I suffered from endless compression type of pain in the right side of my head and face...effecting my right eye immensly...I bleieve that has contributed to my vision problems...My headche have gone, the eye strain also and my facial muscles and jaw more relaxed... Marlene, my way of thinking is very different to others and I usually get looked down upon and mocked or made to feel that I belong in a different realm , as their needs and wants out of life are so much different to mine... So I've left everyone to their own devices and help out were I can without fully immersing myself in their lives...I don't feel overly burdened anymore, when I am unwell I now heal alot quicker and more fully than before...because i'm not now carrying other peoples expectations anymore...I now know my own worth, I respect my body and its limitations...and if I do choose to help I take the responsibility whatever the outcome...I don't beat myself about what has happend or how its come to that point...I've learnt to value time, space and the experience, whether good or bad...A bit like yourself with this experience of the tribute night...you made the choice to go maybe knowing what the outcome will be the next morning, you've taken responsibility for the outcome and owned the pain, keeping alive the joy you felt the previous night...that is empowerment!:)...now you can deal with the pains more positivley...

At night I choose to turn in an couple of hours earlier than my family...My son wants me to stay up with him until he sleeps but I know if I am to function the next morning I need to rest my weary body...We seem to have alot in common Marlene...It can't be easy looking after your mums needs when you are suffering yourself...you are both in my prayers always my friend...Lots of hugs...xox
