Hi Colin, I hope you are well...Colin my dads been told he will need to go on injections from Monday...not sure what med has been prescribed as my brother went with him...but his kinda scared of injecting himself, though as a diabetic he does use insulin injections on a daily basis...my question really is what type of injections are used, are they similar to the insulin injections that are ready, with a small and very fine needle or like the ones the G.p's use...I've used coegalent injections on my mother-in-law after her knee up for 3 months a few months back...I'm wondering if I'll be able to give him the injection once a week...my dad wants to ask for tablets instead but I'm wondering if the injections would be better in cutting out the side effects on the stomach...As you use the injections yourself I would be grateful for any advice...thank you:)

Hi Yasmin could be Steriod injections , they do them in your joints & can do a boaster sometimes , got funny story with that involving a student nurse & endded up pricking herself with it other thing could be Methotrexate injections , they should work better than the tablets because gets in system better , not everyone gets on with it , me being one & prefer the tablets the other injections are the new Anti-tnf drugs but he would have to tried a few disease modifying drugs first like Mtx , these are normaly pens so easy to do , the steriod would be done by nurse or Doctor , the Methotrexate is like normal needle thinking about it , expect its for Methotrexate , they are a lot better tolorated if you can stand injecting yourself , realy worth himself trying first & hope he feels better soon take care

Hi Colin, Thank you for your advice...If its the pen type that would be fine, but if its the proper injection I'm not sure if I'll be able to inject him without my hand shaking...They've already told him that he will either need to inject himself or get a member of the family to do so..the only problem is see is if I'm unwell or unable to give him the injection for some reason having another person to take my place, none of my other sisters want to take it on...So I'm having to think it seriously and chat with his rheumy on MOnday and see what the options are...Thank for getting back to me Colin, I appreciate it immensly:)

Hi Yasmin, could you try asking for a district nurse to help you and your Dad until you are both confident with the injections.

hi Yasmin , like Marlene said you could ask a nurse , they will show you how to do it a few times anyway , the metoject is not a pen , you can google it , one thing is when its is done right it wont hurt at all & they will show you hope it goes well

Marlene, thank you so much for your advice, I did think of asking if the district nurse at our practice would give him the injections but I suppose like you indicated they will want us to take it on ourselves...I know I can learn to use the injection the problem for me is when I can't make it...will most likely have to ease my dad into it somehow:)p... Colin, I will google it thank you...it will kinda show me the reality of what I've got to deal with... Lov and hugs to both of you:)! xox
