Subject: Newly Diagnosed

Hi just looked into this forum i have been diagnosed with OA in both knees have ad it for years apparently but GP didnt pick it up until my knee balloned at work and i couldnt walk , have had to give up work on GP advice as i was a care and support worker and cant kneel down etc and all the walking Gp advised if i went back to work then the knee would swell again in time and i would have to go off sick again . I have been off sick now for three months on sick pay and i am so bored and depressed. I used to be active do Zumba (Cant do that anymore ) So if any one has any ideas of how to cope with this i would really appreciate it .Regards Wendy

Hi Wendy, welcome to the forum. I am a fellow sufferer of OA.I am lucky enough that only one knee has a small amount of OA. I have spinal shoulder fingers wrist and feet. I have had a couple of surgeries along the way. It is hard coming to terms with it all.
I understand the bored and depressed bit.
I deal with it all with a great family support network. I also have my 86yr old mun living with us so I have learned to cope.
I just concentrate on what I can still do rather than what I can't do.
Wendy can I ask how old you are. I was first affected at 35yrs but like you undiagnosed for years.
You can cope with it and given time you will.It takes time to take it all in and accept things are going to change. You will find other things to fill your day, I did a computer course run by our local council and have never looked back I now love what I was even to scared to turn on LOL.
Take Care I hope this helps a little, keep in touch any questions or even if you just want to let off steam we are all here.

hi marlene sorry its been a while just had so much on my plate.
i went to butlins bognor 2 weeks ago, it was great but so tiring and now i remember what the pain was really like. on the friday coming home in the car for 2 hours when i got home i couldn't get out the car for nearly 10 mins, i had to wiggle and rub the best i can, mark was great and lifte my legs out as i twisted and he pulled me out. since then i have been having a major flare, all joints been crazy and new pains. for 2 weeks now i have had bad pain in shoulder which goes up neck and down my arm like a musscle spasam and stiff neck. awaiting a steroid injevtion my my elbow as again i can not strighten it more that 45 degrease.

had my tooth done now too, had to have my gum cut and the root surgicily removed, lots of pain after 8 days still but got an infection too so that doesn't help.

anyway my sons birthday on monday so another thing to sort out when in this pain, not good but he will love it.

how are you and mum in law?

Hi Davina, sorry you have had such a rough time.Hope you get that steroid jab soon.
I have just booked a holiday for November in the Sun and now I am just hoping I will be ok with the flight. I find it difficult to sit too long. Like you a holiday is worth it (I think) haha
Hope the little one has a lovely birthday Bless!!
I spoke to my grandaughter on the phone to-day she is two next month. She is a bright one, just to hear her say hello nan nan makes me smile.I asked her are you being a good girl and she just laughed mmmm. Her mum asked her would you like a baby brother or sister she replied no an orange. She doesn't get the new baby thing yet.
I still am suffering with a chest infection it has been all around the family.I have had some real rough days with pain the weather doesn't help.
Like you Davina I have to get on with it, mum needs looking after so what can we do??
Mark sounds a great guy, we are fortunate to have such good hubbies. I had a friend diagnosed with MS and her husband said he couldn't cope and left her with her 7yr old son.
The dental treatment you had sounds awful you poor thing!!
Well Davina I suppose I should get in bed and try to sleep, with a throbbing foot wrist and a back that is driving me up the wall I should be lucky.
Take Care Big Hugs (gentle ones) are on there way xxx

Hi Marlene as I write I am sitting in an hospital ward. My son yesterday had 2 asthma attacks. The 1st in the afternoon and was sent home then about 7.30 last night, had 4 nebulizers to stable so was kept in.
His birthday is Monday and we had a party for him with my family then hospital. Lol

Holiday in November sounds wonderful hope its somewhere hot to hopefully help those pains.

Children as so funny on the phone lucus.talks to his nan, cousins on the phone.and he's just happy to hear them.

Yes we are lucky to have such great men that understand and will go to lengths to help. U also know someone who had a car accident her partner said he couldn't deal with it and left he after 3 weeks, she was still in hospital and left his daughter with her! Silly man!

Anyway on just 4 hours sleep for both of us I'll speak soon, hopefully he will nap soon. Lol xxx

Oh bless him!! My youngest son had asthma from a young age. He now still has asthma but he is very fit and runs for charity. So it doesn't have to hold them back at all.
We are off to Fuerteventura Canary Isles. Well its not boiling hot just nice 25degrees. I find it helps a lot I can also afford to have massages out there as the are £15.00 each session. In London they look at you like you have a fortune and say its just £40.00.Well my hot water bottle will have to do LOL
Take Care and a hug for that little one hope you are both home soon xx
