Subject: Mtx injections.

Hi all,
I am due to see the rhumy next week, I think one of two things will happen, either she will put the mtx up, or she will put me on injections. I am on 15mg already, and it really has not helped me at all, what are the injections like? I have bad intolerances to medications in that i do not tolerate liquid and injections all that well, my system is hyper sensitive and the list of allergires keeps getting longer. I feel so green at all this, there is so much to tell her, and have no idea where to start. If you don;t mind and sorry to ask, what were, are your expereinces with injections. I really worrying about this. Hope you are all hanging in there, and if you are going through a hard time thinking of you all, thanks for listening. x

Hi Paula if this is the first drug you been on and has not helped the will normally add another to the mix. U have heard that the injections are better on your system.
I don't know.about methotrexate but I have done 3 injections of cimzia and found it ok and I hate needles. It stings for a.few seconds during and after but that was it much better than enbral which is a pen injection and the inpact.
Hope this helps and you will get help.doing them x

Paula are you in the UK ? because there is drugs you got to try before they give out the anti-tnf ones

the injections should work better than the tablets , did not get on with it myself & went back on tablets

Hi Colin.
Yep I am, How are you by the way? I think it may be the injections, although she was thinking of putting the mtx up, remember when you thought she was a little crazy when my starting dose of mtx was 15mg? Too be honest, the mtx has not done much, and I cannot take hydrochorlqine because of some of the drugs I am already on, so that one is out, case of trial and error I guess. Take it easy and thank you for gettingback to me. x

Paula , they tend to use Mtx with the newer drugs so think they will want you to stay on it , they may add Salazopyrin EN-tabs (sulfasalazine) at some point as second disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) but it not so effective as Mtx but here in UK you have to try two DMARD before they let you uses anti-tnf drugs

personaly could not inject myself , the pens are so much easier , I am the same with allergires cant take any NSAIDs because they all give me asthma , with MTX only problem had is with raised liver count (ALT blood test ) but high dose folic acid sorted that

I am fine myself , you get used to it in the end & learn to live with it , With all the new drugs out , hope most wont get the joint damage like some of us had & it will take time to get your condition under control

hope you feel better soon

Hi Paula

You only be offered mtx injectable if you are having bad side affects with the tablets & or hair loss.

I was moved onto injectable at christmas because I was having nausea, diarrhoea, loose stools, hair loss every time they increased the dose. I could not increase the dosage any further than 15mg tablet form as the above got so bad and affected me for 4.5 days in a wk.
On injectable I increased the dose to 20mg and I suffered none of the above. I get a slight headache on the day of injecting and occasional I get loose stools, but not every wk. I have even had my dose incrased to 25mg with no ill affects, although last wk I was reduced back down to 20mg.

Given the choice I would of preferred to stay on tablets, its just I could not tolerate the tablet form!

Hi paula,
I am new to the forum but just wanted to let you know that while I have been on 25mg mtx i only had mouth sores for a few weeks and although I have hair loss and feel sick on the day of the injection and maybe the day after I have had no bad side effects eg liver damage or chest infections and I can't even take co-codamol without being sick so hopefully you will feel a lot better on it I was on the 20mg dose for about three years and suffered no bad side effects only being considered for anti tnfs as my inflammation levels are up again, hope this has been helpful and wish you all the best with your treatment Deborah xx.
