Subject: Plaquenil

Hi all,

I have RM and have been taking plaquenil for the last few years. I knew something was wrong with plaquenil when my thyroid became under active, my eye sight got worse, I had kidney stones and kidney infections 6 times a year.

My rheumatologist seems to be just throwing plaquenil at me even though I have stressed all of this to him a million times.
I have had to stop taking it and now he will only prescribe me brufen retard. I might as well be taking vitamins because the swelling in my hands, wrists and knees has come back with a vengeance. Not to mention the pain has forced me to call in sick to work when I can't zip up a coat or tie my shoe laces.

So does anyone know of a more healthy and thyroid friendly medication?

hi saram i don't know about healthy or thyroid friendly meds but i would say go to your gp and ask for another rheumy as thsi 1 you have knows sod all. if hes not willing to give you another med for your ra then he is a retard. lol

you can also go to gp and tell them what pain killers he has put you on and ask for more if needed. xxx

Hi Sara, I take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid, i would think this is the usual medication for under active thyroid which i imagine is what you have. I think it's important that you speak to the rheumatologit again as it's not good to take brufen long term as they can damage the stomach, if he is no help then ask to see another. good luck.
