Subject: A little swelling and heat , no redness RA?
Hi, saw RA consultant due to having sore fingers on one hand and pain in my shoulders and elbows. Negative for the RA factor but not got other test results back. Periodic pain in both knees and wrists. But now thumbs on both hands hurt when used a lot and the number of fingers with pain increasing. It is worse in the morning and when driving or trying to cut things like meat up when applying pressure. Elbows are the worst though when I have been sat for too long and then straighten them or carry things which are a little heavy, like shopping bags. Please help as I don't know what is going on!!!

feel sorry for you , dont always get redness with RA , some people with RA dont have RA factor , there is several on the forum with seronegative RA, in does sound a lot like RA but hope for its not hope they give you a good Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs , should help settle down a bit & try to get refered to rheumatologist hope you feel better soon

Thanks for responding Colin, just been for a scan on my hands Which were negative said the radiologist. But then driving home my wrists and fingers were sore as was my knee. I have been referred to the rheumatoid physiotherapists by my consultant, but no word on my blood test results she had done. I see her again on the 5/3 , hoping for good news. How are you? When were you diagnosed?

I was 38 when told I had RA , had it for since 1996 , the blood test will tell them a lot , main ones are ESR(Erythrocyte sedimentation rate) & CRP(C-reactive protein ) are both markers of inflammation with RA they tend to do Xray so have referance to check on , not sure they can rule it out from Xray's but the blood test will tell them a lot
