Hi there guys, I have question does early diagnosis of R.A and early start of Methotrexate really prevent joint damage from occuring? has anyone experienced this with MTX Thanks

Hi Suz, it is supposed to protect you, that's the whole point of it! It didn't work for me so I am on other drugs.

Thanks for replying bsk, were u diagnosed early and given it early so joint damage is prevented. Did it help you at all?

I've only had RA for a coming up to three years and been on a variety of drugs but no joint damage at all. Been on Methotrexate for 9 months, didn't help enough and made me ill with chest infections and then Cimzia. That did help quite a bit but I got ill the whole time so am starting Enbrel next week. When I spoke to NRAS they said to me it was vital to go on the drugs because of the damage you can get. I don't like being on them but I like the RA less! Best of luck.
