Subject: memory foam mattresses
I'm getting an adjustable bed & I would like to know what people think of memory foam mattresses. I have ankolysing spondolitis & nerve damage & have to be helped to turn over during the night. please any advice would be a help as at the moment I'm in worse pain when I wake up than before i go to bed. Thanx

Hi Ruth My husband has a memory foam mattress with an adjustable bed and he finds it really great for him as he has back problems. However, it is too firm for me, I have polymyalgia and temporal arteritis. I myself use a memory foam topper, (even though I have a very good mattress) and I wouldn't be without it now. I don't know if this helps but I would definitely say go and try it out first.

Hi Ruth, I have used a Tempur mattress for many years and love it, I feel it helps my joints as I have arthritis in most of them, I also have back problems, (but not AS)and it really helps there too. I have a topper which I take with me if we are staying anywhere else in the UK. My husband also sleeps on the Tempur and he is not so enamoured, but he does not have arthritis. I hope you get relief with your new bed.

I have AS and find it difficult to turn in bed and I found memory foam a nightmare - thankfully I was able to return it. You sink into it and it hugs all your joints which gave me more pain - then you're stuck in the 'mould' it creates of your body and so it's impossible to pull yourself out of that to turn over with bad arthritis or AS. Best to trial one from a company that will permit you to return it if it's not suitable.
