Subject: feel pissed off

Hi saw the gp this morning, since the first time since being diagnosed with RA. I showed her the leaflets the rhumy gave me regarding methotrexate and other meds, and she asked if i was having pain refief, and gave me co drymol. one four times a day. this was the dr who when i first went to her and showed her my hands and she threw a cream at me, no further investigation. She said then said sorry you have it but they can do better things for it than 10 years ago. I have only just been diagnosed and going through a roller coaster of emotions etc. Am due to see the rhumy next week. The irritability is off the scale at the mo, feel really frustrated at the mo, sorry to rant, just had enough of this. Just a bad day.

hi paula, I know exactly where you are coming from. its really frustrating that people don't realise that massive affect it can have on your daily life. simple tasks are so painfull and it drives you mental when your hands are not able to do what is required of them. Pain killers might dull the pain but it doesn't make life any easier. I stupidly or stubbornly decided that i would lay a carpet in my small entrance hall last night. it was a nightmare trying to grip a stanley knife or have enough strengh in my hands to manover the carpet. But being the stroppy and fiercly independant woman i am, i stuck with it. Several sliced fingers and pops of foul language later i got it done. The hall looks fab now, however today i'm paying the price, i can't even hold a cup.
its the effect on our daily life that the G.P's don't think about. All i hear is, "take it easy with your hands, don't do too much" i often say to my doctor that he should try wearing 6 pairs of gloves and then he might have a clue how difficult daily life can be, and thats with out the pain we feel, onto of the restriction of movement!
the thing is, we are not silly, we know noone can wave a magic wand and make it all go away. but there are some many other things that could be put in place to make life less painfull and more bearable.
thoughts and hugs to you xx
