Subject: Is this normal

I have P A and suffer from chronic tendonitis in my achillies and foot. Is it normal that I should suddenly be in the most excruciating pain for around 5 days and then it just dies off again to a more manageable level. Don't think I do anything to start it off and arcoxia doesn't help it. It just seems to improve by itself? Then about 1 or 2 weeks later it stRts again. Can anyone tell me if this is the way it will always be also I have been in a walking cast for the last 12 weeks

Hi Annett, I have RA and fibromyalgia. Before I had the diagnosis few months ago I had been seeing my various gp's and physiotherapists to try and get rid of the pain in my achillies tendon. Now I have a diagnosis my gp was explaining that the tendonitis was just one of the pieces of a jigsaw that has now fallen into place. The only medication that helped me was steroids. I currently take Sulfasalazine and nortriptylon which occasional courses of prednisilone. Best wishes, Gillian

Thanks for that Gillian did yours keep flaring up for no apparent reason. I take 25mg meth pain killers and anti inflammatory mess and my foot is in a walking cast but it still keeps happening.

Yes I would have it for weeks on end, so painful to walk and then it would just go away only to come back week or so later. It feels like an elastic band that is snapping all the time. Sometimes some pain relief gel helped if it was rubbed in well. Take care Gillian

Hi Annette, tendonitis in my feet and achilles was my worst symptom of my RA. Mine seems to have settled a bit now- thanks to my hospital referring me for physio and (especially) hydrotherapy. The excercises hurt to start, but really helped. They have also referred me to orthotics as the pain resulted in me changing walking stance, and it has become a vicious circle. Are any of these options available to you? Best of luck.

Thanks Sarah don't think we hydro pool but there is a physio dept I will ask when I see my consultant in feb. I had been using orthotics for over a year but because I was on my feet for 8 hours a day at work and ignoring the pain I was having things became much worse until I could not put my right foot on the floor. I was scanned at the hospital and there was a lot of small tares and general damage to the achillies as well as tendons in my foot so I ended up in a walking cast which I have had since 2 nd nov. Things do seem to be starting to improve so physio may be a good idea just scared of making it worse again. I think I might also have to leave my job. Thanks again

I knew I had spoken too soon back to being in extreme pain, taking arcoxia and Tramadol but its not helping, I have pain in my "good" ankle as well as shoulders and down my arms. Sorry but I could scream with frustration.

Hi Annette I also am having bouts of tendonitis which is really frustrating and the only relief I get is with cold compresses and ibuprofen gel. There doesnt seem to be anything else. It lasts 3 or 4 days and usually comes on if I do any amount of walking
