Subject: Abnormal blood test results - Methotrexate

Hi all,

For months now, nearly a year, each time I have my monthly blood tests my results are normally always abnormal. They are only slightly abnormal so they've always allowed me to continue with taking methotrexate.

Generally by FBC is always slightly abnormal and my U&E's can be slightly abnormal too.

Is this normal for methotrexate users?

I've on 10mg of methotrexate and take 5mg folic acid tablets 3 times a week.

Thanks,
Ricky

Hi Ricky, MTX can alter your blood count, that's why it's important to get your blood checked. If your white cell count gets too low then they would stop the MTX until it went back up again. If they are allowing you to continue with the medication then i don't think you have anything to worry about. Ask them to explain the results to you the next time you get your blood taken to put your mind at rest.
