Subject: CCP antibodies
Hi, I've had the results of blood tests which say my CCP antibodies at 194u/ml which is postitive. I have negative rheumatoid factor and negative ANA. Does anyone know what this might mean? I'm not seeing a rheumatologist until November (after my MRI scan!)

Anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) or anti-cyclic citrullinated protein antibodies (anti-CCP) are autoantibodies (antibodies directed against one or more of an individualās own proteins) that are frequently detected in the blood of rheumatoid arthritis patients wikipedia of all places has a lot more info on it hon

hi Julie, you can have high ccp and -ve rf and ANA and still have RA. It is called sero -ve inflammatory arthritis. I was diagnosed with this but they now call it RA. You can also go change from -ve RF to positive,so they should re-check every few months. FYI, the current protocol is that you should start DMards within 3 months of diagnosis in order to prevent joint damage. So the sooner you are diagnosed, the better. Nov seems a long time to wait to me. Can I ask, why are you having an MRI scan?

Hi bsk, that is really helpful - thanks. I have a swollen finger joint but I have a history of joint replacement so I think they want to see what is going on with my finger. I had my wrist replaced in 2008 but never got to the bottom of 'why' my cartilage had eroded and at that time no other joints were affected. But now my finger is constantly swollen and therefore have limited flexibility and also my toes are very sore.
