Subject: Zumorph

Has anyone been on Zumorph? After 9 weeks off work and still not settled the flare up properly my doc has put me on this to help with the pain. Codeine, dihydrocodeine and tramadol not helped especially with all the side effects. I just wondered if anyone had found this one actually helps?

Hi Sharon. I haven't taken Zomorph but I do take Oramorph and they must be from the same 'family' of morphine. Like you, nothing else touched my pain until the Oramorph and I have been taking it now for over a year with no side effects and reasonable pain relief. I try to take the minimum possible so it doesn't take the pain away completely. I have been in a flare since June of last year in most joints. Can't seem to find a Dmard that will help at the moment. Oramorph and steroids have enabled me to get up and walk!!! Let's hope that you get some good pain relief from your zomorph.

Thanks Patricia, I hope so too because at the minute it isn't doing anything. I don't even know if you have to take it for any length of time before it takes effect? Most things do.

Hi again Sharon :-) When I started taking the Oramorph I was in a pretty bad way. Completely bedridden and in excruciating pain. It took a good week for me to be able to get up but still with an awful lot of pain. I would say it took a month for the terrible pain to subside. I was also taking steroids at 30mg alongside. I am STILL taking steroids at 10mg and without them life would be unbearable. Has your GP mentioned these to you?? If you do go on them PLEASE remember to take a calcium and vitamin d supplement because steroids can cause osteoporosis long term. I do feel for you because until they can get our 'condition' stabilised life is on hold...x

Hi Patricia, I am going to ring the doc tomorrow and ask if I can increase the morphine. I have been in work 2 days now and only stayed 4hrs each day but as I am office bound at the minute, the pain in the bottom of my spine is quite sickening at times. I sometimes get a warm flood of heat in it and then the pains intensifies and thats when I fell worse. I will mention the steroids but I have had 3 steroid injections since march already and they haven't done much. I will see what she says.
