Subject: discusted at the care of the nhs hospital

hi guys well i was admitted to hospital via the emergncy doctor thursday night as i was in total agonoy with a flare to both knees and sholder i couldnt take any more of my own pain relief as id already taken to much. anyway i arrived at the hospital at 8.30 with my bed ready and waiting the nurses gave me 10mg of morphine as well as a few paracetomol i was given morphine every couple of hours with codine and paracetomol i was in so much pain. the following day a rhumatoid specialist came to see me around 16.00 spoke to me for 5 mins then decided they would give me aa steriod and send me home i was so annoyed as it was nice to have some strong painrelief to make me comfortable i have had steriod injections in the past and they do nothing anyway it took them from 4.00 in afternoon till 11.30 at night to bring the steriod which in the mean time the nurses were still dosing me up or morphine ect ect i fell asleep straight after injection prob due to all the meds in my system nxt thing at 12.45 at night i was woken by the doctor with my release paapers to say i was ready to go home. my husband put me in a wheelchair as i still could not stand due to pain and the fact i felt drunk he took me to the car and headed home he had to keep pulling over as i needed to throw up as the motion of the car made my head spin. im just sooooo annoyed theyd kick some1 out in so much pain druged up to the eyeball at 12.30 at night sorry 4 the rant

omg Kylee, that is awful! You could make a complaint to the PALS department. There's no way they should have sent you home at that time of night. outrageous.

thats horrendous! definetly make a complaint, because if thats the way they run things the only way they will improve is by people speaking up.
cant belive you were treated like that. hope you are feeling a little better x

pleased you are feeling a little better. Managing something to eat will have made you feel more human lol. I find eatting little and often is the best way but know how hard that is when so sickly. Ginger biscuts are worth a try when feeling sick, just having something on the stomach for the times you need to take meds.
Do you find when you are feeling really sickly even drinking is a problem? because i certainly do. When i was last really bad my hubby got me icepops, and lemonade, amazingly i think they helped and the sugar in the lemonade gave me a tiny bit more energy than i would have had without.
Hope you continue to feel a bit better over the next few days. x

I am with Marlene here completely speechless....... a very rare happening for me. Complain like hell and don't let it go....... If you get no response from PALS go to the press they would have a field day with that one.
If you are still feeling sickly a glass of Coke with sugar added can be really helpfull in settling your stomach.
Hope you are feeling better and take care xx

thanks guys and kirst to answer your question yes i also find it ard to drink i didnt have anything in the hospital as it didnt help they provided warm water i was told i must drink as i would get dehydrated but at that point i didnt care my husband bought me an ice lolly and i just about sucked it to death as the morphine made my mouth so dry. i find coke realy helps however i found it also gives me stomach craps when not eating this maybe dwn to such harsh meds on an empty stomach. im so suprised they even sent me home as i was asking for more painrelief every hour as the morphine felt like it had worn off within an hour so surly that would of told them i was in a great deal of pain and had no sllep through my first night i couldnt lie still longer than 2mins the second day i decided i was going to have a go on my crutches and try and move but after 3 hops a hot sweat came over me and my face started to tingle my hearing went all funny i could here like a static tv sound and then i fainted but they still released me that night just when i had manged to dose off as well xxxx

Disgraceful kylee hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry to say that this is the way the NHS is going. My Mum has gangrene in her toes and the hospital REFUSE to admit her because she has severe dementia and when I tell people this they look at me as though I'm telling lies - I wish !!

There is not much CARE on the care system is there. My mom and nan have been nurses and they've said for the last 20 years the NHS has continued to go downhill work lazy nurses, no more matrons resulting in poor standards.

Whatever the standards in hospitals ... as human beings I cant understand why they would treat you this way? I'm so sorry you had to go through that added to the nightmare you was already in.

Take care and I hope things improve for you soon.

kylee i work for the nhs and i have to say in most cases they get it right in yours they clearly did not not patient should be discharged at that time of night the nhs deal with millions of patient episodes of care a year and sadly the ones we hear about are when it fails ( which contrary to popular belief are few and far between) contact your hospital complaints department or pals and make it official otherwise you wont get a reply about this xx

many thanks cookie for your reply think im going to let it lie as usualy i have had such good care whilst in hospital and kind of dnt wnt to kick off about it i will be complaining to my rhummy when i see him but am willing to ccept that maybe it was a 1 off however if i feel i am treated unfair again i will be making a complaint. i just havent the energy at present to cause any grief between the health care and myself i no they were in the wrong and my rhummy will be told that the way i was treated was a disgrace . if further action is needed then i will contact pals

I find it really interesting reading about your situation in the UK I am in Australia where the system is vastly different and we encounter all the same problems just a bit differently. One thing that my friends don't understand when they say I should complain about things and make a point, is that we really need these people and I for one am reluctant to get off side with them at the risk of worse treatment. Good luck to you all and kylee I hope you are treated the way you deserve next time.

ah kylee defo tell your rheumy he can feed back to the department although i would be more inclinded to tell the nurses as they have to feed such things back as an " informal" complaint that they will need to discuss and note xxx
