Subject: Marlene one here for you and any others interested in the ATOS medical assessment system!

Just recieved an answer to a complaint that I put into ATOS, regarding them cancelling an appointment for my son, who suffers from a form of aggrophobia that won't allow him to leave the home without a trusted member of the family with him, at very short notice stating staff illness as a reason. This led to Sam locking himself in his room for 3 days and being extremely anxious, as it had taken days of persuasion from me to get him to agree to go with my support. Hence the strongly worded complaint being sent after having the request for a home visit for the assessment being denied, I recieved a reply to my complaint just acknowledging their receipt and giving a 6 week timescale for an investigation being done. Sam was sent out another appointment for today at 1:00pm, I had to cancel it this morning as he is here with me at my daughter's, the one who had the baby last week, and we weren't returning home till tomorrow.
I have just spoken to my mother who told me Atos had rung for me yesterday and that a letter had arrived today from them, I asked her to read it out over the phone and in a short version it basically gave some stupid contrived excuse for their cancellation not the one given to me on the day, loads of aplolgises for the knock on effect that it had had on Sam, that they noticed a request for a home visit for Sam had been denied and have overturned that decision so he doesn't have to interact with strangers in an unfamiliar environment. It is very coincidental that this has happened at the same time as the ATOS report on the BBC yesterday I think you are right Marlene in your other post:)
I know Sam doesn't have the same health issues as we have but he is a great support for me.
My message to all of you that are experiencing issues with the medical assessments and DLA get on their backs complain loudly and don't give up.
I was suffering really bad flare up today as well but after that news my pain is copable:) so it has been the best pain relief I have had in ages:)
take care all xx

So glad to hear your son is getting the justice he deserves. I have phoned constantly and will continue to do. It does not matter what health issues any one has every one should be treated fairly and on their personal merits.I do hope Sam is feeling happy that he no longer has to go. Heres to a happy future for your son. Take care and love to Sam X
