Subject: Methotrexate

Hi
I have been taking Plaquenil for the last six weeks but my consultant says that as it is progressing quickly I am now to have Methotrexate. I am a little concerned about this as there seems to be a lot of side effects including suppressing the immune system. Has anybody here experienced any side effects from this drug. Thanks.

I got told the main difference was you couldnt drink on. methotrexate and not the drug for people wanting to start a family.

I chose Sulphasalazine and luckily had no side effects but seeing as in the end Ive given up drinking etc anyway I mighr swap to it from sulphasalazine if it works better and I can ditch tramadol and naproxen

ive been on methotrexate for over a year now. Ive had slight hair thinning, but only where im noticing more on the brush, certainly nothing obvious. I had sickness when on the tablet form but increasing the folic acid suppliment you have to take with it to 6 days a week eased it (folic acid is a must with this drug), i did move onto the injection form as i was still feeling sickly and appart from that all seems well.
Lees right men and women must be very carefull with regards to wanting to start a family so if it applies to you make sure you are will informed.
The suppressing of the immune system... i wouldnt worry about it. you are advised to get the flu jab as a precaution but ive not had any problems so far (and ive got children bringing all sorts of germs in from nursery lol). it is how the drug works tho, it stops/slows down the body attacking itself so is one of the drugs which is likely to help massively.
if you are still worried look it up and get as much info as you can. please dont fixate on the side effects because everyone is differant and you never know you might be someone who doest get any side effects :)
hope thats of some help x

Hi Kirst,

Trina has kindly agreed that I can post on here to ask whether anyone is willing/able to take part in some market research. We will pay £250 cash to participants to cover all expenses.

The research will take the form of a face to face interview next week and relates to a new injection device (you wouldn't be required to inject yourself during the interview).

We are looking for people self-injecting with a minimum of 3 months experience. Anyone wishing to take part must be using one of the following:
Enbrel
Humira
Methotrexate

We are particularly interested in anyone aged over 60 or those with severe RA in their hands (but certainly wouldn't exclude any others if they meet the main criteria).

If you are interested and able to travel to central London on the 6th, 7th or 8th of June please do get in touch. Please note that in certain instances we may be able to conduct the interview in your home or place of work if this is more convenient.

For more information on our company (just so you know we are legit!), please visit www.creativemedicalresearch.com.

Thanks,
George
