Subject: Weird, shooting nerve pain

Hello fellow arthritis peeps. For the last week my arm/hands and legs/feet have been going mad with shooting nerve pain. It's horrible. Any helpful hints. The codeine helps somewhat - but when it starts wearing off ... I know all about it. And, of course, thanks to the lovely weather my hands and feet are swelling beautifully. Quite sexy really .. I've got a whole "blimp" extremities thing going on. LOL.

Thanks Cookie. I've just taken some morphine. Will try the anti-inflams though. I don't have any steroids. Thank God for a sense of humour hey? Sometimes, if you don't laugh about things - they just seem impossible to bear. I am so grateful this forum is here. I find it helps so much to have other people who are in the same boat and who really understand the weird things RA can do to you. This morning a HUGE wad of hair fell out. I found myself almost bemused and wondered how long it was going to take exactly to go bald. I twizzled the clump of hair round and round and it turned into a bangle. So I presented it to my partner!!! He he Then I showed my step daughter (who is training to be a hairdresser). Her response: "Ah well ... look on the bright side ... if you go bald you can have wigs and change your look everyday!!" Bless her.

Just be mindful if your taking anti inflams with morphine gaynor am sure in my dim and distant past on a course i was doing that anti inflams block the morphine from your pain receptors so making the morphine much less effectove i think thats why they reccomend paracetamol or co codamol with morphine. I could be wrong but it sparked a memory might be worth asking a pharasist if youre going to take the morphine again /regularly xx

Aahhh ... thanks for that Cookie. I didn't know that. I'm not taking the morphine regularly and the rheumy didn't want to give me anti-inflams 'cos I'm having scans and MRIs (MRI this Thursday) - so she wants the inflammation to show up. So I'm kinda in no-mans land at present. I just an over the counter ibuprofen 400 mg. But I shall hold off on those. I'm using up my stocks of morphine because I'm not on it regularly anymore. Switched to Gabapentin now - but still have serious waves of pain happening.

Im getting nerve pains and the Dr has prescribed me Tramadol which dull the nerve receptors in the brain and Naproxen for the muscle pain.

The tramadol is strong as 1 less than morphine and to be truthly does eliminate a lot of the nerve shooting pains

Thanks Lee. Unfortunately I am violently allergic to Tramadol. I take them and I get an instant mega migraine. Horrible. But thanks for the suggestion.
