Subject: Stopped smoking

Hello all. Well ... I'm on day 4 of stopping smoking. It's a bit weird I can tell you. I was a 40 a day smoker - and I seem to have a lot more free time (LOL). I was reading up on RA and the consistent message came through that smoking can make RA a LOT worse. It scared the bejesus out of me, 'cos it's pretty severe already. So I made the big decision. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, to be honest. On day 1 I gave in and had a couple of ciggies in the evening - but since then I haven't caved in. And I'm feeling quite proud of my little self.

Gaynor a big well done girl. I gave up smoking18 months ago. For our health it is a must and your pocket will be fuller. Each time you reach a target that you set yourself say one month treat yourself out of the money you have saved.I gave up my hubby followed then my son then my brother, I feel doubley proud we did it as a family, oh and i forgot my daughter-in-law who stuck her heels in has now given up she didnt like being the only one standing out in the freezing cold LOL. You should feel proud of yourself I feel proud of you.

Hey all. Now going into week 2 of no smoking. It's going very well. I did earnestly ask for angelic help with this one though. I can't quite believe that I'm not smoking. Kinda weird - but good.

Thanks M. Yeah ... she was chuffed. Still going strong. Off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow. A change of scenery will do me good. Not looking forward to the first 2 nights though. A change of bed always kicks off my joints for the first 2 days. Oh well ... have painkillers will travel.

Good on you. We have just had three nights away for hubbys birthday B&B in Dorchester. I paid the price with a soft bed but it was so worth it. Looking for B&B in Bath for a break in maybe May time. We could never afford these little breaks when we were both smoking. These are the kind of things we can treat ourselves with.Had a massive ice cream (diet went out of window). Enjoy !!!!

Hey there - I've been away too. Still not smoking. And, you know what, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Being a 40 a day smoker I really thought it would be harder. But it's been very manageable with the nicotine replacement stuff from the nurse. So there's hope for all you smokers out there. If I can do it, I think just about anyone can. And I am well chuffed with all the money I'm saving. I've stopped coughing in the mornings. I've got a little plastic "fake" ciggie that I reach for when pain levels go off the charts (like today). I find it harder when I am in pain. But the fake one seems to work. Good luck anyone else who is trying to quit. We can do it. From everything that I've read - quitting smoking is a very good thing when you've got RA.
