I have not yet been prescibed a pain killer that does not have significant side effects, they all seem to give either constipation, stomach aches or diarrhoea !!! Is there a perfect one.

Hi ken, I'm not sure where your pain is but have you tried acupuncture? It does work, not always immediately and it can take a few sessions, but it does provide pain relief. It doesnt hurt and a lot of NHS physios offer it, the only side effect is that it can promote a sense of relaxation and make you a bit sleepy - not so bad eh! any of the drugs with codeine with make you a bit bunged-up or sleepy so its hard to find something thats perfect.... and having needles stuck in your leg isnt everyones idea of pain-relief! I'm an nhs physio who uses acupuncture at work and i've needled myself when things have been bad and i had a lot of arm pain and it has truly helped.! I know that a lot of other people might reccomend smoking something of the more 'herbal' variety for pain relief, again apparently v effective but not everyones cuppa! Good luck Nicola

I too can say acupuncture is a good option for pain!! I have used it on and off most of my life & recently for the pain from a torn meniscus cartilage. Other than that I don't believe there are any pain killers that don't have some sort of side effect.

Aaaahhhh constipation! Gotta love codeine for giving you constipation. Turns your bowels to cement. But, there are things that can help with constipation. I guess it's a trade off. I'd rather be constipated than wanting to put my head through a wall in pain.
