Subject: Methotrexate and Liver function test
I was put on 20mg of Methotrexate 2 months ago but yesterday I had a call to say only take 15mg of Methotrexate as my liver function on the blood tests was a little high Has any one else experienced this and will the 15mg of Methotrexate be OK. I also take Salazopyrin 4 a day. Has anyone else had any other side effects from a blood test which shows a liver function which is a little high? I thought I was doing OK.

hi. i would think that if they were very concerned then they would of told you to stop taking it altogether,how soon are they going to test you again? hopefully the lower dose will put your liver function test back to normal but im sure they will keep a very close eye on you. i was on salazopyrin but have had to stop completely as i went jaundiced due to a trapped gallstone and my liver funtion test was very abnormal,am not allowed to restart it at all until i get the all clear take care let us know how you get on x

Thanks Athena, I don't have to see anyone until April so I am guessing that its not that serious and they have said I only need monthly blood tests and not fortnightly as before.

Hi Marilyn, I have been called back to the docs on 29th Dec due to liver function test being abnormal, it should be 0-49 and mine is 78. I am on 15mg mtx, but not been told to cut any out.
I have had this before, and cut the mtx down to 10 mg myself to get it back on track, but thought I would do as I am told this time and see what happens.(or not told as the case may be)
Today I went for a further test so thaT i will have anew result for when I see the doc so lets see whether it has sorted itself out.I have taken two more 15mg doses since my last test.
I think just to feel on the safe side I will cut my mtx down on my next dose as I kind of feel a bit achy in my lower back,could be my imagination but better safe than sorry.

Thanks Angela I also have a blood test on the 29th so I will see if my liver function is better at 15mg instead of the 20mg all the nurse said was if it had continued I would have felt sick.
