Subject: bloods

any 1 have any idea how low is low when talking bout wbc i was phoned yesterday from the hospital to tell me to stop medication as wbc had dropped to 1 and to go for blood test in a week is this dramaticaly low as i dnt feel any different. my wc always drops between 1-3 every few weeks does anybody else have this prob or no why this keeps happening

Hi Kylee, in my experience, 1 is not dramatically low just on the low side they are probably being cautious, hopefully will go up a bit this week and you can carry on as normal, I think mine went down as low as 0.2 when on sulpha

thanks tom wish theyd explain blood results instead of just telling you to stop meds as i find it alarming

hi kylee, my rheumy nurse told me the wbc should never go below 4, if it does have to stop taking the DMARDS,maybe its different for certain meds or different hospitals

Have you been given a booklet on MTX from your hospital? Mine is a pink/purple one with information about the drug and towards the back there is a few pages to record your blood results. If you have one, right at the back pages 25 & 26 tells you what the test are for and what normal ranges should be.

hi im on anti tnf ebrol injection and leflunomide havnt been given a booklet will have to ask when i go hospital in january will wbc bein low make me feel even for tired than usual

hi, yeah having low wbc would make you feel more tired then usual,i wouldnt wait until january,have you got a help line or your rheumy/nurse phone number,i would give them a ring if i was you, ive got a book and the nurse wrote down in it what it shouldnt go below and it says 4, mine was 5.3 last month,how often are you having your bloods checked ?

hi i have my bloods done once a month and this alsways seems to happen i end up staying off my meds for 2 weeks then 2 weeks later my bloods drop again. i was a little thrown few months ago as i had my bloods done and i hadnt taken my meds for 3 weeks as i went away on holiday and stupidly 4got my meds i returned and had my bloods done while i was having routine appointment at rhumy and again my wbc had dropped down to 2 so surly it cant be my meds doing it.
