yup, I can relate to that. I can recommend boots own brand tension headache tablets. They have paracetamol which will help with the swelling, codeine for the pain, caffeine to open the blood vessels in the brain and a muscle relaxant which'll help with the stiffness and alleveiate the pain in the head.

I tend to find when my shoulders play up, the muscles tense and I get the most agonising headaches ever - it feels like my head is in a vice which is been released and tightened constantly! When it gets really bad my rheumy will inject the joint with a steroid which helps no end. I have started to find that I'm developing a bit of a hump at the top of my back because my shoulder muscles are so tight. I'm going to ask for some physio to see if that might help!

Hope that helps Kazzie

Hi Kazzie

Ive sufffered really bad with this type of pain aswell. RA is a nightmare and I have two children, the youngest being 2. Its hard to give advice on how to copy as I think you end up finding your own coping mechanisms. I just give myself a really good talking to and try and think of at least one or two positive things in life. I know its really hard and ive been to the lowest of low at times with this disease. Im now taking Tramadol, codine, methotrexate, folic acid, sulphasalazine and amitriptyline (not as an antidepressant but for nerve pain and to help me sleep). I've had to have nerve conduction tests and I have developed really bad parasthesia and numbness in my hands as a result of the RA inflamming my wrists and trapping nerves. This could be causing some of the pain in your shoulders and neck as when the RA inflames it traps the nerves. I hope you feel a little better soon but try not to let it destroy you - fight back if you can. I refuse to let it control my life (even though thats extremely hard). I always worry about the future aswell when Im old but the Consultant said there is so much medication now to prevent the disease (or at least slow it down) from causing permanent damage unless years ago when all they could do was treat the pain. Hope you feel a little better soon. x

Hi Kazzie

I know its awful when you feel so bad, ive felt exactly the same at times and just felt literally like a cripple and having to rely on other people. Hopefully you will get some medication sorted to try and stablise things a little better. Ive just felt so down and miserable at times aswell that you feel like a burden to others or negative all the time but as long as youve got good support they'll understand. Hope you go on okay when you see consultant - just tell him you really need something sorting as soon as possible. Good luck. x
